Average Penis Size
Penis size has long been a source of anxiety for men, though the social norms have not always been constant. It has been suggested that in ancient Greek society that the ideal penis would be small, uncircumcised, and with a tapered foreskin. This can be seen by examining a cross section of art from that period and the ways that penises were depicted order to determine an idea of the popular conception of average penis size from that time. Addressing this question specifically, "The Straight Dope", a column in the newspaper the Chicago Reader remarked that in ancient Greece, only vulgar old men, satyrs, and comical figures were depicted with large penises. Aristotle himself is said to have remarked that "those who have a very big penis are less fertile than those with an average-sized one, because cold semen is sterile and what has to travel any great distance gets cold."
If we are to judge from depictions in art, than the ancient Romans had precisely the opposite preference as the Greeks, and are more in line with modern man's anxieties about average penis size.
Numerous surveys have been conducted over the years in an attempt to determine what is normal, and the results of all have consistently shown something between five and six inches erect, or (13-15 cm) as the average penis size of men across all races and ages. The smallest penises, actually referred to as micro-penis in the medical community, are smaller than 7 cm or just over two inches fully erect, and are thought to represent approximately 0.6% of the male population, according to the famous Kinsey institute, who also say that no scientific basis exists for the prevalent idea that size is correlated with race.
